Hi! My name is Devon and I’m glad to tell you a little bit about myself as you do the important work of finding the right therapist for you. I am from Woodinville, Washington, though I’ve called Seattle home for the past 20 years. My own time as a teenager and young adult was extremely formative - and I was very lucky that encouraging teachers and a therapist were there to help me navigate the challenges. As an adult, I’ve been fortunate to work with teens and young adults in all kinds of settings - summer camps, schools, community centers, and beyond.

My Approach

I believe that each of us is whole, even while experiencing challenges and healing. I also know that our differences are what make our community thrive, and that everyone has unique gifts to share.

I am a strength-based therapist, supporting youth to develop self-esteem through self-understanding, even as we identify areas for growth. I have found that when we bring an attitude of curiosity to your fears, hopes, and tendencies, we can learn a lot! Over time, many people I work with develop self-awareness and self-trust, come to identify more strongly with their own values, put new skills and strategies into practice, and make choices that are aligned with their goals.

I bring flexibility to our sessions and their structure, so as to meet your needs. As we go, I will be learning about what concerns you, what matters to you, and what you are hoping for. In service to that, we might discuss your current or past experiences, practice new skills, or do some problem-solving. What’s more, I love using activities like drawing and games when relevant and desired. I often encourage my clients to experiment with a new strategy outside of therapy, and come back and report on how it went. I will provide options, but your preferences, values, needs, and goals will lead the way.

My Education and Training

I have spent nearly 20 years learning from and supporting teenagers and young adults from a vast range of identities and backgrounds. I’ve worn such hats as educator, mentor, program manager, and group facilitator at organizations like Young Women Empowered and Partners for Youth Empowerment. In each position, I was attuning to the conditions that help young people meet developmental milestones.

I hold a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington, with an emphasis on Multigenerational Practice with Children, Families, and Elders. Prior to joining Sequoia, I interned with the Family Intervention and Restorative Services program at the Children and Family Justice Center.

In addition to working largely with youth from communities that are marginalized, I have received training regarding gender expansiveness and equity, disability justice, anti-racism, and other power-informed approaches. I also hold a certificate in Restorative Justice and am a trainer in Nonviolent Communication, which helps me to support individuals and families navigating internal and interpersonal conflict.

More About Me

I have mainly lived in the PNW my whole life, but I love to travel. I have enjoyed extended time in Colorado, Colombia, and Ireland. When I’m not at Sequoia, I like to dance, see live theater, play games with friends, and cuddle with my cat.
